| Land on the left of the map along the border of Bolivia with Chile is largely above 12,000 feet ( 3,600m) and is dominated by a line of volcanoes. Some are active. |

Nights are bitterly cold and only the dawn brings a glimmer of warmth
for the few inhabitants. The land and climate gets progressively drier
to the south of Lake Titicaca.in
a plain dominated by salt lakes such as
the Laguna of Coipasa or great salt flats like the Salares Coipasa and
Uyuni. In the southwestern corner of Bolivia at a higher level are the
salty and borax lakes of Laguna Colorada and Laguna Verde
