Ecuador. The Tsáchilas (or Colorados) are one of the few groups of indigenous peoples in the western Pacific lowlands. They name Colorados derives from the traditional custom of colouring their hair and painting their bodies with red achiote, as shown in this photo taken in the 1970s. Today the custom is limited to special occasions.
