Colombia. Ceremonial centre, Ciudad Perdida Tairona, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The pre-Columbian Tairona [Tayrona] culture has been recognised for many years but the central archaeological feature of the park, the 'Lost City' or Ciudad Perdida was not uncovered until 1975. It is believed to date from between AD500 and 700 and stands in thick forest at an altitude of 1,100m.
