Chile: Valparaiso is Chile's main port, and the country's second largest city. In 2003 Valparaiso it was declared a World Heritage Site.  Much of its attraction lies in the hillside homes, built precariously on rock, that overlook the bay. and the 15 ancient lifts or funiculars that slowly haul passengers between the lower town and the higher residential areas of the city.
