Brazil: Rio de Janeiro. Cariocas - the people of Rio - on Copacabana beach. The beach is about 3 miles (5km) long, and is lined by hotels, apartments and restaurants where the density of population is one of the highest in the world. Much of the development has happened since the 1940s, but it was the 1920s when Copacabana first became famous as the playground for many Hollywood stars and celebrities.
