Brazil: Minas Gerais state is noted for its semi-precious stones. The best specimens are often sold uncut or as geodes. Smaller pieces of quartz, amethyst, agate, topaz and others are tumbled to remove the sharp edges. The finished stones resembling pebbles from an exotic beach are then used for simple jewellery or decorating handcrafts.
