Belize. Laughing Bird Caye  lies 18km off the coast. It is named after the Laughing Gull (Larus artricilla) which used to breed on the Caye. The Laughing Bird Caye National Park was created in 1991 to protect some 10,000 acres of surrounding sea and the Caye is now a World Heritage site.
