Belize.   The Maya site of Altún Ha, meaning Rockstone Pond, lies just over 50km north of Belize City. It was an important trading and ceremonial centre in the classic Maya period (AD250-900).   At the centre of the site, which comprises some 500 buildings, are two main plazas surrounded by the principal temples..
