Mesa Verde, Colorado. The ancient Pueblo Indians (Anasazi culture) built more than 600 cliff dwellings into the walls of canyons in the Mesa Verde. The Cliff Palace is the largest dwelling, with at least 220 rooms and 23 circular subterranean kivas or ceremonial chambers.
