Olmec, Mexico. A relief carving on basalt depicting a priest and writhing rattlesnake [cascabel]. The priest is carrying a small bag in the right hand. It is thought this represents the use of copal, a naturally occuring resinous substance burnt as incense in religious ceremonies.
