Palenque, Mexico from Classic Maya period (AD250-AD900). Lord Pacal's sarcophagus in the Temple of the Inscriptions. The carving on the lid depicts Pacal falling into the underworld, with a symbolic 'World Tree' and 'Celestial Bird' above him.
