Chucuito, Inca Ullu phallic stones
Chucuito a settlement on the western side of Lake Titicaca has pre-Inca origins. An Inca stone enclosure still stands beside the Catholic church and excavations and restoration in 1970-72 by A.Ruiz Estrada revealed dozens of carved stones including some shaped in the form of giant phalli. The place is known as Inca Ullu - ullu /uyu meaning phallus. The noted Peruvian archaeologist, Federico Kauffman Doig who supervised the restoration believes the phalli are pre Inca.
